Judge to Decide Fate of Rutgers Webcam Spy

A judge will decide if Dharun Ravi will be sent to jail.

A judge will decide whether a former Rutgers student convicted of hate crimes for using a webcam to see his roommate kissing another man should be sent to jail.

Sentencing for 20-year-old Dharun Ravi is scheduled for Monday.

He was convicted in March of 15 criminal counts, including two counts of bias intimidation that could be punishable by up to 10 years in state prison.

The case generated intense interest because the victim, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide just days after the spying in September 2010.

The case has become a high-profile test of New Jersey's hate-crime laws because Ravi insists he did not act out of bias against gays.

Prosecutors have said that Ravi should be sent to prison - though not necessarily for the maximum sentence.
