Judge Upholds Charges Against Three Teens in Officer's Death

A judge has upheld for trial all charges against three teenagers in the death of a northeastern Pennsylvania police officer who fell 15 feet while chasing them. The defendants, who were 17 at the time, are charged as adults in Lackawanna County in the July death of Scranton officer John Wilding, who jumped over a wall while chasing them in an armed robbery case.

Judge Margaret Bisignani Moyle ruled Monday after a preliminary hearing that prosecutors had met their burden of proof in the case. The defendants are charged with second-degree murder, murder of a law enforcement officer and armed robbery.

Lackawanna County Chief Public Defender Lawrence Moran has called Wilding's death a tragic accident. He's asking the court to move the case from adult court to juvenile court.
