NJ Boy, 13, Crashes Stolen Car After Suddenly Seeing Mother on Road

The boy stole a car from an office building parking lot & crashed it when he unexpectedly saw his mother driving

A 13-year-old New Jersey boy stole a car and crashed it when he became distracted after seeing his mother driving toward him from the opposite direction on the street, police said.

The boy stole the 2012 Toyota Camry from the Bay View Corporate Center on Hooper Avenue in Toms River Wednesday afternoon, police said.

He traveled into the village area, driving at more than 40 mph on Brokaw Boulevard. At some point, he passed his mother driving her own vehicle from the opposite direction and became distracted, according to cops.

The Camry he was operating left the road and struck a tree.

The boy was taken to Jersey Shore Hospital with a broken nose and hip injury. He's been charged with reckless driving and operating without a license.

Other charges are pending as investigation is ongoing, police said.
