Jitney Driver Killed by Drunk Driver in Hit-and-Run

A western Pennsylvania man has been jailed on drunken driving, vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges after police say he left the scene after running over a jitney driver who was standing outside his vehicle.

Allegheny County detectives were called after Leetdsale police first responded to the scene about 3 a.m. Sunday.

That's where police found the jitney driver, 67-year-old Charles Britt, of Penn Hills, dead along the side of the road. Britt was reportedly outside the vehicle arguing with one of his passengers when a sport-utility vehicle driven by 41-year-old Shontelle Harvey passed.

Harvey, who is from Moon Township, told police he realized he had hit someone or something accidentally, but was afraid to stop because he was already on probation for another crime.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Harvey.
