Conn. Jewelry Store Murder Suspect Caught on Cam on Jewelers Row

Man was caught on camera in at least 2 Philly jewelry stores in the days before he allegedly killed a Conn. jeweler

A tip has led police to Philadelphia as authorities search for the man they say killed a Connecticut jeweler last week.

A wanted poster features the well-dressed suspect police say is responsible for the death of Yekutiel Zeevi. According to police, the man made two appointments with Zeevi, 65, at his Westport, Conn. Jewelry store, reported NBCConnecticut.com.

During the appointment last Thursday night, the man shot and killed Zeevi and shot his business partner while robbing the store, cops said.

The business partner was released from the hospital Thursday.

The well-dressed suspect was in at least two different stores on Jewelers Row near 8th and Samson on Dec. 5, police said.

Numerous tips, including at least one from a Philly jeweler, led Connecticut State Police to Philly’s Jewelers Row.

The man is well-spoken, well dressed and has knowledge of the jewelry business, investigators said.

"I would categorize him as definitely someone who knew exactly what he was doing and was very calculate and extremely dangerous,” said Conn. State Police Sgt. Jim Kline.

“He's been described to us by most people as a collegiate type, like an Ivy-league, he presents himself well, he carries himself well."

The suspect is described as a medium-built white male in his mid 40s, about 5-foot-10 to 6-foot tall with short "salt and pepper" colored hair who had a couple days worth of a beard, worse a wool cap and had black-framed glasses.

In addition to Philadelphia and Westport, investigators say the man was also spotted recently in New York City.

On Jewelers Row in Center City stores remained on high-alert Thursday as jewelers keep an eye out for the alleged killer.

The suspect could be driving a "boxy" vehicle, such as a Scion, or a Nissan Cube.

Anyone with information on the suspect or this case should contact Philadelphia Police or Westport Police Department Detective Bureau at 203-341-6080.
