New Jersey's rural and suburban roads are deadly for pedestrians.
That's one of the conclusions in a national report that ranked the Garden State as the 21st most dangerous place to walk.
Transportation for America found rural and suburban highways often lack sidewalks and crosswalks while motor vehicles travel at high speeds.
The report found 1,514 pedestrians died in accidents between 2000 and 2009 in New Jersey.
The group labeled Route 130 in Burlington County as New Jersey's most dangerous road for pedestrians. At least 17 pedestrians have been killed on the six-lane road since 2006.
Officials say there's heavy traffic, plenty of stores and limited accessibility for pedestrians.
