The man who drugged, raped and murdered 23-year-old Jason Shepard, an intern at Daktronics in Delaware County, two years ago, was finally sentenced to life without parole Friday.

Shepard’s family appeared at the sentencing to speak about the life of the beloved athlete, student and family member.

“He was an all-American guy,” said Calvin DuPree, Shepard’s uncle. “An all-American boy, good athlete, good student, good family member. He cheered everyone up.”

Brutally killed by his boss, William Smithson, Shepard’s decomposed body was found in the cellar of Smithson’s residence.
