Independence Visitors Center Can't Reopen: Feds

The director of a visitors center on Philadelphia's Independence Mall says his efforts to reopen during the government shutdown have been snubbed.

James Cuorato, who runs the Independence Visitors Center, says the National Park Service has denied his request to reopen.

The park service says sites around the country are only reopening if the state can fund the operation of the entire park.

Federal officials say that hasn't happened on Independence Mall, which includes the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

The visitors center closure leaves workers like Albert Lee without paychecks

Lee says he voted for elected officials because he thought they'd make smart decisions. But he says he's been proven wrong.
