In Reverse, Elderly Woman Slams Car Into TJ Maxx Store

A shopper and elderly driver have been hurt after she reversed her SUV, at high speed, in to a South Jersey discount store.

The crash happened at 1:50 p.m. at the TJ Maxx store at the Marlton Crossing Shopping Center at 173 Route 73 South in the Marlton section of Evesham Township, Burlington County, N.J., according to Evesham Township Police.

Police say the 77-year-old woman lost control of her Lexus SUV in the parking lot and reversed into the entrance of the store at 30 m.p.h.

The impact sent glass, brick and steel flying into the store injuring one shopper inside. That person was taken to Virtua Hospital with minor cuts and scrapes. The driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Oren Klein, who witnessed the crash from outside, said it all was a scary scene.

"There was glass everywhere and actually smoke and bricks everywhere," he said. "She hit it full on speed. It was something out of the movies."

Police say the store may have structural damage from the crash and will need to remain closed for at least the rest of the day, if not longer.

The accident remains under investigation and police say there are no charges planned at this point.
