Ice-Covered Port Richmond Street After Water Main Break

Service was restored to about 100 Philly homes Saturday after a main break spilled water onto the street and sidewalk, and into nearly a dozen nearby homes.

The 8-inch water main broke along the 3000 block of Tulip Street, between Ann and Clearfield streets, around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Water damaged 10 homes on the street and forced authorities to evacuate 27 residents.

A SEPTA bus was brought to the scene to keep the displaced warm for a short time before officials with American Red Cross arrived to provide assistance. The Red Cross is helping four people, while the others made their own arrangements.

Water was cut off as crews worked to repair the break, and electric and gas lines were shut off as a precautionary measure.

The water was later restored to all but one home around 5:30 p.m.
