2 Hurt After Scaffolding Collapse in Queen Village

The partial collapse of scaffolding on a building under construction in Queen Village injured two workers Friday afternoon.

A large piece of concrete was being removed from the three-story building along the 200 block of Monroe Street around 1:30 p.m. when it fell onto the scaffolding platform, Philadelphia Licenses & Inspections Commissioner Carlton Williams tells NBC10.

The force of the concrete's impact caused the scaffolding to collapse, sending two workers tumbling to the ground, he said.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and were able to rescue the workers, fire officials said. One was given medical treatment at the scene and another was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital. The type of injuries they sustained are unclear.

The building is currently undergoing complete demolition and the contractors are permitted, according to Williams. An inspector was out at the site on Thursday and found no violations or concerns, he added.

The incident remains under investigation.
