Building Collapses in North Philly

Chopper10 flew over the scene where you can see the damage to the back of the building

A building has collapsed on the 1400 block of West Tioga Street in North Philadelphia.

An NBC10 viewer captured cell phone video of the back of the house crumbling to the ground.

That building is vacant, but authorities on the scene tell NBC10 it's leaning against a neighboring apartment building with about a dozen units. Residents living there have been evacuated.

"I heard a loud crash and banging sound and I looked out the window, the whole back of the building next door fell in," said Kenneth Joyner, apartment resident.

No one was hurt.

Philadelphia's Department of Licenses and Inspections has brought in a front-end loader and crews are working to stabilize the building. They tell NBC10 the plan is to demolish the building Thursday morning.

The cause of the collapse is not known.
