Women Attacked at Local Hospital

Security is being stepped up in and around Cooper University Hospital in Camden

Two female employees of Cooper University Hospital have been the victim of a crime in the past ten days.

The most recent incident happened yesterday, when police say a member of the hospital's medical staff was robbed on her way into work.

She was just outside the main entrance, when police say a homeless woman grabbed her phone and attempted to steal her purse.

"In both of these cases, we were fortunate enough to have resources immediately in the area and made arrests," said Deputy Chief Mike Lynch, Camden Police Metro Division.

Courtney Baldi, 25, of Braddock, N.J. was arrested a few blocks away. Police say she had several outstanding warrants and is currently locked up at Camden County jail.

The second incident happened the afternoon of May 21, when police say a woman attacked a nurse who was on her break outside the hospital. The woman smashed the nurse's face into a brick wall, police say, before she was grabbed by hospital security and later arrested.

Camden Police are stepping up patrols in the area of the hospital as precaution.

"We do take this very seriously, we look at each situation and see where improvements can be made," said Lori Schaeffer, spokeswoman for Cooper University Hospital.
