Sports Reporter Jack O'Rourke Passes Away

We’re very sad to report the passing of KYW Newsradio sports reporter Jack O’Rourke. He was 80 years old, and died suddenly Saturday after covering the Phillies-Cardinals game in South Philadelphia, CBSPhilly.com reports.

Known best for his sports coverage, O’Rourke actually started in news. From 1966 to 1969, he was an anchor for KYW and served as the station’s City Hall bureau chief. In 1969, he joined NBC Radio in New York City, where he worked 20 years in a variety of positions including executive producer of sports from 1983 to 1989. While at NBC, O’Rourke won a George Foster Peabody award for his exceptional work.

O’Rourke grew up in the Boston area and attended Emerson College. He was a father of four, grandfather of seven, and great-grandfather of two.
