Heavy Rains Flood Jersey Shore Roads

Busy Route 9 is closed Monday morning, along with others

Officials along parts of the Jersey shore are dealing with the aftermath of heavy rains that flooded several roads Sunday.

Busy Route 9 through Howell Township was closed heading into Monday's rush hour because of flooding.

Police in Jackson say drivers were trapped in stalled cars as flood waters rose on several roads as a string of nasty thunderstorms moved over the area.

In Long Branch, authorities tried to close roads but tell the Asbury Park Press that they had the plastic barricades they set up floated away. One section of Second Avenue there was under three feet of water at one point Sunday night.

The Six Flags amusement park in Jackson Township had to close early Sunday night because of heavy rain and lightning.
