Heat Wave Claims 11 Lives

There have been 15 heat-related deaths total this season.

11 people are confirmed dead after a heat wave took hold of Philadlephia and the surrounding areas last week and over the weekend.

City Health Department spokesperson Jeff Moran says that eight people died in the recent heat wave from a combination of hot weather and cardiovascular disease.

One of the victims was a 67-year-old man, who was found Saturday afternoon in his Germantown home.

Three others in Berks County have also been confirmed dead. All three are reported as having pre-existing health conditions.

Temperatures topped 103 degrees in Philadelphia on Friday, breaking a long-standing heat record. On Saturday, we reached 101 in some areas, breaking a record set back in 1991.

So far, there have been 15 heat-related deaths this summer.
