Heat Wave Claims 18 Lives in PA

An 81-year-old Brookhaven woman is the latest victim of last week's heat wave.

We’re in the grips of yet another heat wave and there’s no sign of a cool down in sight. If that isn’t bad enough, a suburban Philadelphia woman’s death is now being connected to last week’s scorching temperatures.

The delcotimes.com is reporting that 81-year-old Eleanor Murray was found dead in her Brookhaven home on Sunday, July 24. Although Murray’s death is listed as “undetermined,” an autopsy says dehydration and heat exposure may have been contributing factors.

Temperatures topped 100 degrees in parts of Philadelphia and the surrounding area last weekend. Another heat wave is expected to hit Friday and is expected to last through the following week. If temperatures continue to rise, July could become the hottest month on record for our area.

So far, last week’s heat wave is being blamed for at least 18 deaths across the state.
