Head of Delaware Substance Abuse Division Resigns

Delaware health and social service officials have abruptly announced the resignation of the head of the state Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health.

Officials issued a release late Friday saying Kevin Ann Huckshorn was resigning for personal reasons.

Officials said Huckshorn, who has served as division director since April 2009, was leaving to spend more time with her parents, due to aging and health concerns.

Officials noted that Huckshorn said in her letter that she had fulfilled her promise to stabilize and improve operations at the Delaware Psychiatric Center, and to manage and implement a settlement agreement with the federal government that required changes at DPC and reforms in the community-based mental health system.
