Havertown Judge Molested 12-Year-Old: Police

Police recorded Gerald Liberace's apology phone call to 12-year-old girl

A Havertown judge was arrested Wednesday for allegedly touching a 12-year-old girl inappropriately.

Gerald Liberace, 69, is charged with indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of a minor. He could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each charge if he is convicted.

The incident happened in August 2004 when Liberace was alone with the daughter of a woman he was dating, police say. The girl lay in bed with him while he scratched her back and then proceeded to touch her under her panties and began rubbing her buttocks, according to the grand jury statement.

The girl told her mother and a therapist about the incident and reported it in 2009. She is now a senior in high school.

Last summer Delaware County investigators intercepted a phone call between Liberace and the girl, authorities told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"You know I did things that I guess were inappropriate, and the only thing I can say is that I felt very close to you, and it breaks my heart that you're not in my life anymore," investigators told the Inquirer Liberace said in the phone call. He goes on to apologize for doing things that were improper.

Liberace is the Senior Magisterial District Judge in Haverford Township.
