Box Truck Takes Out Wires, Leaves Line of Fire on Delaware County Road

Crews shut off power to get fiery crash along West Chester Pike under control.

A truck overturned along a Delaware County road early Monday, knocking out power and leaving a line of fire.

The box truck flipped onto its side along West Chester Pike (Route 3) near Country Club Lane in Havertown around 4:15 a.m.

The force of the wreck sheared off part of the top of the truck and left a line of flaming wires that ran a couple hundred feet along the roadway.

Traffic and SEPTA bus routes along West Chester Pike were detoured.

The driver was able to get out of the truck and refused medical treatment, police said.

PECO cut power to about 500 customers so firefighters could safely extinguish downed wires that caught fire, the power company said.

The fire was out by 6:15 a.m. By 6:45 only a handful of customers remained without power and westbound traffic was moving again along the roadway.

The cause of the wreck remained under investigation Monday.
