Yik Yak Threat Leads to Shelter in Place at Delaware County High School

Officials put students at a Delaware County high school into a shelter-in-place situation Monday morning after an anonymous online threat turned up.

A student contacted the principal of Haverford High School at the start of the school week after seeing the threat on the social media site Yik Yak, said school spokeswoman Amanda Larsen.

The school then contacted police who searched the building while students were asked to shelter in place for about one hour inside the building on Mill Road, said Larsen.

Police didn’t find anything suspicious in the school and students resumed normal school hours around 9:50 a.m., said officials.

Larsen didn't mention what the message, posted anonymously to Yik Yak, said, citing the ongoing police investigation.

Yik Yak is a site that has raised concerns for school districts around the area including in Neshaminy, Bucks County where the principal posted instructions on how to find Yik Yak on a child's phone after a sexting scandal at that school.
