Harry Kalas with Your Hoagie

A new book honoring the life of well-loved Phillies announcer Harry Kalas is available in stores today…Wawa convenience stores, that is.

Wawa Inc. will be the exclusive seller of Rich Wolfe’s Remembering Harry Kalas; Wonderful Stories from Friends Celebrating a Great Life, which means you can wax nostalgic with fellow-Phillies fans, all while eating a jalapeno cheddar-stuffed soft pretzel.

According to a press release from the favorite convenience store chain, the book is a compilation of stories from people who knew Kalas best and it includes tales from the major league locker rooms, press boxes and road trips. The book has 32 pages of photos, chronicling Kalas’ career.

“We are honored to exclusively sell this tribute to Harry Kalas, a man who we not only all admired and adored, but who was a loyal customer and friend to Wawa for many years,” said Howard Stoeckel, Wawa’s President and CEO.

The hard cover book will only be sold at Wawas. And while this is the first book Wawa has sold in the history of the company, it is not too strange of a venue for author Rich Wolfe.

Wolfe, who does not put his name on the cover of his books but always includes his personal cell phone number in each book, is well known for selling his books in places as strange as shoe stores, university stores and furniture stores. Now he can add Wawa to the list.

And while being a best-selling author by using the strangest of places, Wolfe is not your average writer of books either. Wolfe can’t type, has never turned on a computer and has never seen the Internet.

Remembering Harry Kalas; Wonderful Stories from Friends Celebrating a Great Life came out in 400 Wawas in Pennsylvania, New jersey and Delaware June 15, just in time for Father’s Day. The book is $9.99 and can be found right at the check-out counter.

In honor of the great announcer, Wawa also will be donating $10,000 to a charity selected by the Kalas family.
