Harrah's Fined $65K for Underage Gambling, Theft

N.J. gambling regulators fined the resort for theft and underage gambling

Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City was fined $65,000 by N.J. gambling regulators on Thursday, marking the first action taken against a casino since new gambling regulation was introduced in recent weeks.

The fines come in response to the casino allowing underage gambling, failing to detect thefts by a cashier and leaving cash boxes from three slot machines unattended for a half hour.

In one instance, the casino caught an underage patron trying to swipe a $100 chip from another gambler.

In the most serious incident, casino security failed to detect four thefts by a cashier in late 2008 and early 2009, amounting to $23,000.

Harrah’s did not contest the violations and agreed to pay the fines.
