Owner Sets Up Santa Village Next to Adult Toy Store in Delaware

The owner of a Delaware adult toy store is speaking out after she set up a Santa Village for children right next to her business.

Jennifer Layfield told NBC10 there was no local Santa Claus for families to meet in her town and she wanted to change that.

“It just happens to be, I’m a mom and a grand mom that really likes kids,” Layfield said. “I wanted these kids to have a Santa locally.”

Layfield brought in a friend who dressed up as Santa and set up a small house in the parking lot of her business on Lewes Georgetown Highway in Harbeson, Delaware. Her business, however, happens to be the Dragon’s Lair, an adult toy shop.

“Come see Santa that’s what it’s all about,” Layfield said. “I’m not saying come into the shop. I’m not advertising and saying, ‘Oh here’s the bait line, we also have Santa.’”

The Santa house is about 50 feet away from the adult store and there aren’t any signs outside indicating to children what kind of items Layfield sells inside her shop. Layfield told NBC10 most parents don’t even know and those who do don’t bring their children inside.

Layfield says the children meet Santa and get a free toy – a kid’s toy – that she bought herself. Layfield told NBC10 she’s owned the Dragon’s Lair for 25 years and is a good neighbor. Children are not allowed inside her store.

Despite this, Layfield has still seen some comments on Facebook criticizing her actions.

“Block out the fact that I’m a sex shop [owner],” she said. “Just realize that I’m just a person that cares about little people and I want them to be able to see Santa.”
