Rooftop Blast Injures Pa. Contractor

Contractor suffers minor injuries when HVAC system explodes at Hershey retirement community

Fire officials in central Pennsylvania are investigating an explosion of a rooftop heating and ventilation system that left a contractor injured.

A private contractor was working on the unit at the Country Meadows Care Facility retirement community in Hershey when it exploded Friday afternoon.

Derry Township fire officials said no staff or residents were injured, there was no fire and no need for an evacuation.

Officials say the contractor was able to come down from the roof on his own and was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
