Five people are in the hospital after a shooting at a birthday party.

It happened Sunday shortly after 2:30 a.m. on the 2900 block of Thompson Street in the Brewerytown section of the city.

Police say it began with an argument between two men outside of the home. The argument led to one man pulling out a gun and shooting the other man in the groin and the thigh, according to investigators.

Police say the victim ran inside the crowded house and was followed by the gunman who continued to fire. The gunman struck four other people before fleeing the scene, according to investigators.

The first shooting victim, who police say is a 24-year-old man, was taken to Hahneman Hospital where he is in stable condition. A 25-year-old woman was shot once in the buttocks and once in the right foot. She was taken to Temple University Hospital where she is in guarded condition.

Another 25-year-old woman was shot once in the right thigh. She was taken to Hahneman where she is in stable condition. A 25-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen. He was transferred from St. Joseph's Hospital to Temple where he is in critical condition.

Finally, a 25-year-old man was shot once in the left thigh. He was taken to Hahneman where he is in stable condition.

NBC10 spoke to one woman who lives near the scene of the shooting.

"It's common, it's almost becoming common," said the woman. "It's not conducive for young people, older people or working people in the neighborhood. It's not good."

Police are currently interviewing witnesses to get a description of the shooter. If you have any information on this incident, please call Philadelphia Police.
