A 14-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head in North Philadelphia Monday night.
The teen was in front of the Philadelphia Housing Authority police building, which was empty at the time, on the 1200 block of 10th Street at 8:40 p.m., when an unidentified gunman opened fire. The teen was struck once in the head. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he is currently in extremely critical condition.
"Presently he's inside the emergency room being worked on by doctors," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "He's got a gunshot wound to his forehead and he's never regained consciousness. He is in very critical condition. It's unknown whether or not he's going to survive."
Police told NBC10 a BB gun that looked like a handgun fell out of the teen's clothes when he arrived at the hospital. They don't believe the BB gun was the weapon that wounded him however and instead suspect the teen was shot by a revolver. They continue to search for the weapon.
No arrests have been made and investigators say there were no witnesses. Police are currently reviewing surveillance video from a few blocks away.
