Wilmington police say a 31-year-old New Castle man was shot in the West Center City neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Friday. Police say the victim was found a few blocks from the shooting scene, suffering from gunshot wounds to his right arm and upper back. He was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. Police said his condition was serious later Friday.

Police believe the victim was walking out of a store at the intersection of 7th and North Washington streets when a gunman opened fire before fleeing.
