Gunman Opens Fire on Crowd in South Philly

A 28-year-old man was wounded  late Tuesday night when he and a group of people ran from a gunman who opened fire on the crowd.

The suspect approached the group, standing near 4th and McClellan streets in the Pennsport section of the city, around 11 p.m., pulled out a gun and sprayed the block with bullets, according to police.

The shooting victim was hit twice in the stomach as he ran from the scene, collapsing about a block away, authorities said.

Police transported the man to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was in critical but stable condition just after midnight Wednesday, according to officials.

No other injuries were reported, although at least two parked cars were also hit by the gunfire, according to investigators.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect and urge anyone with information about the crime to contact police.
