Gunman Carjacks Family With Baby Inside: Police

Police are on the hunt for a man who they say carjacked a Philadelphia couple while their baby was with them.

The family of three was in the parking lot of the Micro Center on Lancaster Avenue in Radnor Township around 8 p.m. on Monday. They had just bought $2,000 worth of computer equipment and returned to their SUV. Suddenly, police say, a gunman approached them and forced them into their vehicle.

He then allegedly drove down Lancaster Avenue, all while their 8-month-old baby was inside.

“Obviously any crime is concerning,” said Radnor Township Police Lt. Christopher Flanagan. “But when someone is willing to display a handgun with an 8-month-old child there, we’re definitely concerned.”

Police say the suspect stopped the vehicle in a parking lot on 555 East Lancaster Avenue behind the Philadelphia Sports Club and met with an accomplice. The two men then allegedly took the family’s computer equipment and transferred it into a Toyota Avalon. Police say they also stole the couple's wallets and cell phones before fleeing the scene.

"We don't believe it was his first time," said Flanagan. "We believe this occurred before."

The family was not harmed during the ordeal.

Police are offering a $2,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. If you have any information, please call Radnor Township Police at (610) 688-0503.
