Sheriff Gives Out Free Gun Permits?

A district attorney in western Pennsylvania is asking questions about a sheriff's office that gave out free or reduced-fee gun permits.

The Beaver County Times reports Thursday that District Attorney Anthony Berosh is asking questions about the uncollected fees.

A draft audit by the county suggests that about $13,000 in fees wasn't collected. Berosh tells the paper that Beaver County Sheriff George David was obligated to collect the money but didn't.

Myron Sainovich, David's solicitor, says that previous sheriff administrations gave discounts, too, and that nothing was done to defraud the county of funds.

David is awaiting trial on charges he threatened a political campaign worker and an online news reporter. David denies the charges and remains in office because county officials can't remove him.
