The Delaware Attorney General's Office says an aide at a New Castle County group home has been charged with raping a resident.

Hedwidge Rivas of Wilmington, 71, was arrested Tuesday and charged with second- and third-degree rape and other offenses. According to investigators, Rivas raped the victim several times between June and July of this year. Officials say the assaults took place at  a Newark group home operated by Bancroft where Rivas worked as an aide.

"Our greatest responsibility is to act to protect the most vulnerable Delawareans," said Attorney General Beau Biden.

Rivas was arraigned and taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Center in lieu of $127,000 cash bail.

Authorities said a criminal investigation began in July, and that the alleged abuse took place at a Newark group home.
