Grandmother, Dog Beaten With Basketball Trophy

A brutal crime with a bizarre weapon has rocked a North Philadelphia family.

A woman was savagely beaten with her grandson's basketball trophy.  Her dog was also beaten to death.

It happened on the 3200 block of Arizona Street.

Someone knocked on the 64-year-old woman's door.  When she answered, the attacker grabbed a trophy and smashed the woman on the side of her head.

She is now in critical condition.

Her family and police are stumped.

"What'd you do it for? What was the reason? She would give you the clothes off her back,” the victim’s son said.

This attack may have been a robbery attempt, according to police, but it’s not clear if anything was stolen.
