Suicide bomb blast kills Sgt. Gollnitz

New Jersey and New York mourned the death of an American hero killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Army Sgt. Jonathan Gollnitz, 28, of Lakehurst, N.J. died Sept. 26 from a suicide bomb blast in Pul-E Alam, according to the Department of Defense.

Gollnitz was stationed in Lakehurst after growing up in Upstate New York, family told the Asbury Park Press.

Gollnitz, along with fellow slain soldier Staff Sgt. Orion Sparks of Tucson, Ariz., served with the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team out of Schweinfurt, Germany.

Funeral plans are pending.
