Golden Globes Red Carpet Fashion G+ Hangout With Brittney Shipp

The 2014 Golden Globes red carpet was full of hits and misses, and some surprises too. The award winners were the focus of the night, but the fashion was the highlight.

NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist and fashionista Brittney Shipp hosted a Google+ Hangout with local style experts to usher in the fashion on Hollywood's big awards night. This was some of the dish the group talked followed by what people were saying on social media.

EVERYTHING GOLDEN GLOBES

The experts agreed some of the best dressed for the night included: Robin Wright, Kerry Washington and Lupita Nyong'o. Jewelry designer Jane Makransky of Mack & Jane Jewelers described Washington's dress as quietly elegant with a tiny bit of embellishment. While hair stylist Kevin Gatto liked Washington's dress, he would have liked to see an up-do and to get her hair off her face. Jenice Armstrong, a columnist at the Daily News, thought Nyong'o's red cape off the shoulders was "stunning" and Makransky agreed emphasizing the absence of jewelry can sometimes be a great statement with the right dress.

The misses were pretty easy to spot with this panel of experts. Jennifer Lawrence got no love for her dress. Boutique owner Sissy Harris of Peter Kane described her dress as "different" and "unexpected." Hair stylist Kevin Gatto of Verde Salon said Lawrence's short hair looked great, showing off her short hair as "sexy, doable and red carpet-worthy.

Armstrong "hated" Lawrence's dress and said she was one of the biggest misses of the night, along with Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore. "Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can go crazy," said Armstrong speaking of Barrymore.

Gatto was impressed with the Leonardo DiCaprio's long, slicked back hair with a goatee. Jimmy Fallon also got a nod for his hair. Gatto says DiCaprio's style is coming back and Fallon's shorter hair makes him look younger. Guys can only do so much with a tux, but a color such as a midnight blue stands out on the red carpet, according to Gatto.

GOLDEN GLOBES: OLD GUARD VS. NEW

The hosts knocked it out the park. Amy Poehler got a big thumbs up for her "knockout" dresses and chandelier earrings. "I was shocked by Tina Fey's waist," said Armstrong. "I want to know how many spanks she had on."
