Domestic Assault Suspect Punches, Kicks Philadelphia Officer: Police

Philadelphia Police searched for a domestic assault suspect who police say tossed an officer over a railing in the Olney section of Philadelphia early Wednesday.

Officers responded to an apartment complex along E Godfrey Street near Crescentville Road shortly after midnight to find the distraught 24-year-old suspect out front, said Philadelphia Police.

"He began being belligerent with police, he was very argumentative with police and he was reaching into his waistband and refused to show his hands," said Philadelphia Police chief Inspector Scott Small.

As officers began to search the man for a weapon, he began to fight the officer, causing both to fall over a railing. The suspect would also land a few punches and kick the officer while he was down before darting off into the nearby woods, said police.

The officer suffered some bruises and went to Einstein Medical Center for observation.

"He is conscious, he's OK, he was able to go into foot pursuit," said Small. "He is a good officer and we are going to get him checked out just to make sure that there is nothing more serious than we see."

Police know who the suspect is and believe he may have dipped back into another apartment. He will face domestic and police officer assault charges once he is arrested.
