Girls, 2 and 5, Shot, Suspects in Custody

Authorities say they believe two men involved in a shooting that injured two young girls at a northeastern Pennsylvania apartment complex are already in custody on unrelated charges.

Police in Luzerne County said the Aug. 24 gunfire at the Sherman Hills Apartments in Wilkes-Barre sent a 2-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl to the hospital in critical condition.

The older girl has been released from the hospital and the younger child is said to be improving at Geisinger Medical Center.

First Assistant District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said Wednesday that investigators have two suspects but declined to name them, citing the pending investigation.

But he said they are behind bars at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.

Officials have said they believed a domestic dispute was behind the shooting.
