Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said in an effort to keep drivers safe they are installing pavement reflectors and centerline rumble strips on many roadways throughout the region this year.
The installation of centerline rumble strips on all numbered traffic routes and other heavily traveled state roads are part of a statewide initiative.
Rumble strips are intended to reduce head-on, side-swipe and road departure crashes.
The pavement reflectors, which you see primarily on expressways and on some other key routes complement the traffic lines and serve to illuminate the line to drivers at night – especially during rain or inclement weather.
