The trial began Wednesday for the young woman accused of beating up a gay couple in Center City Philadelphia last year.
Kathryn Knott faces aggravated assault, simple assault, conspiracy and reckless endangerment charges.
Knott, who hails from Bucks County, and a group of other people beat a homosexual couple at 16th and Chancellor streets in September 2014, said Philadelphia police.
Two men apologized while admitting their roles in the beating of a homosexual couple. Philip Williams and Kevin Harrigan pleaded guilty earlier this year to assault and conspiracy charges stemming from the attack. They both agreed to pay fines and to perform 200 hours of community service at an LGBTQ facility while receiving no jail time.
Knott, 25, rejected a plea deal and chose to stand trial. Jury selection began Wednesday and opening arguments were expected Thursday morning.
At trial, tweets considered to be anti-homosexual she previously made can be presented, a judge ruled.
