Gas Leak Forces Evacuations in South Philadelphia

A gas leak forced several people to evacuate their homes in South Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

Officials say a worker in the basement of a house on 10th and Christian streets struck a gas line, causing a leak. At least 19 homes along the block were evacuated as a result.

"So we ran out with what we had on," said Theresa Miraglia, one of the residents. "Because you know you get scared when you hear gas. There are explosions God forbid."

PECO and PGW crews were able to repair the leak and residents were allowed back inside their homes after several hours.
