Funeral Services Begin for Officer Walker

Funeral services for Philadelphia Police Officer Moses Walker, Jr. are set to begin.

Funeral services for Philadelphia Police Officer Moses Walker, Jr. are underway.

Police officers gathered at the Dr. Ethel Allen Elementary School on the 3200 block of West Lehigh Avenue. The officers as well as Mayor Michael Nutter marched to the Deliverance Evangelistic Church at 2001 West Lehigh Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Walker's casket was carried on a horse-drawn caisson during the march.

A public viewing will take place at Deliverance Church from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

A private viewing will take place at Deliverance Evangelistic Church on Monday from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. The viewing will then be followed by funeral services.

Walker will be laid to rest at Fernwood Cemetery in Lansdowne, Pa.

Officer Walker, 40, was shot three times and killed on Saturday, August 18, while he was walking to a bus stop at 20th and Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia.

On Friday, Rafael Jones, 23, was charged in Walker's murder. Police arrested second suspect, 19-year-old Chancier McFarland in Mobile Alabama.
