Snow at the Worst Time Makes for Messy Friday Morning Commute

Snow fell before daybreak Friday. An inch or more accumulated in many neighborhoods leaving slippery conditions for the morning commute.

March came in like a lion at the worst time as snow hit early Friday, causing for a slick morning commute and school delays. And, more snow is on the way in some neighborhoods this weekend.

A First Alert for periods of steady snow and slippery surfaces for most neighborhoods expired at 9 a.m. Friday but the slick conditions continued.

This wasn't a major winter storm but an inch or more of snow has fallen across many neighborhoods (get snow totals) causing a nuisance for the morning drive or ride. The snow was already tapering off by daybreak in western neighborhoods and should move out entirely before noon.

Snow fell early Friday leaving a mess and sidewalks in Media, Delaware County.

Some stronger bursts of snow upped snow totals to near 4 inches in some Berks and Chester county neighborhoods.

Plan to give yourself extra time to brush off your car or walk to your train or bus. Some crashes slowed area roads. Hundreds of schools have delayed openings so be sure to be check the School Closings list.

SEPTA detoured dozens of bus routes and suspended its Route 35 service entirely due to snowy roads.

Once the snow leaves, temps only warm slightly with highs expected around 40 under mostly cloudy skies.

More Snow This Weekend:

More wet weather is expected over the weekend with a wintry mix and/or snow in colder areas.

Light snow in the Lehigh Valley and western suburbs Friday night into Saturday morning. That same system brings rain to Philadelphia, Delaware and the Jersey Shore.

There is a chance for some light scattered showers Saturday under mostly cloudy skies.

Then, a potential major winter storm could move in Sunday afternoon and evening with the greatest impact on the Lehigh Valley, Berks County and the Pennsylvania suburbs as inches of snow are expected in those neighborhoods. That same storm will bring rain to southern neighborhoods.

The winter storm should clear out by Monday morning.

Expect sunshine and temps in the low 30s Tuesday and Wednesday.
