What Caused Horse Track Crash?

State officials are investigating a crash at a New Jersey horse track that sent five drivers to a hospital and injured some horses.

Horses and drivers collided when the pace car skidded on a sloppy, icy field at the start of the fifth race at Freehold Raceway on Jan. 10.

New Jersey Racing Commission executive director Frank Zanzuccki tells the Asbury Park Press the purpose of the investigation is to try to determine what caused the incident.

“We are engaged in the process of gathering all of the facts,” he told the paper.

Two drivers required hospitalization for their injuries. Some of the horses suffered cuts and bruises, according to the paper.
