Cephalon Inc. Chairman and CEO Frank Baldino Jr. died Thursday evening, the biotechnology company said. He was 57.
Chief Operating Officer J. Kevin Buchi took over Baldino's day-to-day responsibilities in August and will continue doing that, said Fritz Bittenbender, vice president for public affairs. He declined to comment on a transition plan beyond that.
Bittenbender also declined to discuss Baldino's illness. The Frazer, Pa., company said in August its founder would take a temporary medical leave. It then said earlier this month Baldino would remain on leave indefinitely.
