4-Year Old Hero Saved Mother's Life

Pa.boy given international recognition for life-saving 9-1-1 call

Four year old Isaiah May was just doing what he had learned in a book he read, when he dialed 911 and summoned help to his home in Troy, Pa.

That brave action is credited with saving his mother’s life.

On Tuesday, Isaiah was a honored at the 2011 International 9-1-1 Heroes Awards® Ceremony by the international public safety organization, 9-1-1 for Kids®.

The award was presented during the 77th APCO International Conference & Expo in Philadelphia.

On August 7, 2010, Cara May suddenly collapsed on the bathroom floor due to severe abdominal pain. Isaiah remained calm and carefully followed Dispatcher Renninger's instructions to help get the appropriate immediate emergency assistance to his mother.

“I called 9-1-1, because I read it in a book,” said Isaiah. “They said what’s our address, where do we live?”

The 9-1-1 for Kids® organization said Isaiah's call models the behavior other youngsters should exhibit when correctly using the 911 system. Because of Isaiah's bravery and quick-thinking, his mother is alive and well today.
