Fort Dix 5 Make Appeal

The men convicted of planning an attack on the Fort Dix military base want their sentences overturned.

The five men convicted of planning a terrorist attack on Fort Dix military base are looking to have their sentences overturned -- or at least be granted new trials.

Eljvir Duka, Critan Duka, Shain Duka, Mohamad Shinewer and Serdar Tatar are Muslim immigrants who were found guilty of planning an attack on Fort Dix soldiers in 2007.

Lawyers for the five went back to court Monday afternoon before a Federal panel in the hopes of getting the convictions overturned.

“Our kids are innocent. I’ll tell all the world,” says one relative.

Family members of the five say the men were set up and targeted by informants, who they say are illegal immigrants, simply because they are Muslim.

Those family members held a protest outside the courthouse Monday.

Lawyers for the five men will not have an easy time convincing the panel of the alleged “set up.” Prosecutors have footage of the men training with automatic weapons and watching jihad videos, reports NBC Philadelphia’s Byron Scott.
