Former New Jersey Mayor Convicted in Farm Fraud

A former New Jersey mayor has been convicted of falsifying documents and stealing a relative's identity to purchase a farm property in late 2009.

Former Manalapan Mayor Andrew Lucas was convicted at trial Thursday after prosecutors said he lied on a loan application and convinced a client of his investment company to invest $250,000 in a company that didn't exist until Lucas formed it three days later.

He also used a relative's name and social security number to set up that company.

Lucas was found guilty of charges including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, obstruction and making false statements to the IRS.

Loan application fraud carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years and a $1 million fine.
