Local Food Truck to Compete in National Competition

About 50 food trucks from across the United States will go head to head in a local bakery company's national competition, and only one operator from the Philadelphia region has been chosen to compete.

English muffin and bagel brand Thomas' — owned by Horsham, Pennsylvania-based Bimbo Bakeries USA — last year held its inaugural "Hometown Breakfast Battle," where 135 chefs from across the United States competed, putting their own spin on Thomas' products.

For this year's iteration, Thomas' is taking to the streets for the "Breakfast Battle: Food Truck Edition," featuring 50 food trucks from 50 cities in the United States competing for the grand prize of $25,000. The contest will begin Sept. 12

One Philadelphia food truck made the shortlist: Jerry's Kitchen, which launched in 2014. Their creation is called the Britt's "Muff" Sandwich, which includes one Thomas' English muffin, bacon butter, a potato pancake and a sausage patty.
