Flyers, Sixers Host Blood Drive

Donors eligible to win tickets, apparel

Whether you bleed orange and black or red, while, and blue, the Flyers and 76ers are giving their fans a chance to swell the local blood supply.

The city's hockey and basketball teams are holding their sixth annual blood drive Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center. The event began at 5:30 a.m. and will last until 1:30 p.m.

Any Individual who is 17 years of age and meet certain weight and height requirements are eligible to donate blood. 16-year-olds from Pennsylvania and New Jersey are also eligible if they have parental permission.

Organizers say that while donors of all blood types are welcome, there is a particular need for people with negative blood types (O-negative, A-negative, B-negative) to donate. Type O negative blood is in particularly high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type.

All presenting blood donors will receive either a Danny Briere jersey-style T-shirt or a 76ers T-shirt. Two randomly chosen blood donors will win the Ultimate Flyers/76ers Fan Experience, which includes two Club Box Tickets and a chance to meet either Briere or Sixers point guard Jrue Holliday.
