Heavy Rains Cause Flash Flooding

Drivers are being urged to use caution as heavy storms overnight brought flash flooding, closing some roadways in eastern Pennsylvania.

Roads were closed in Philadelphia and some surrounding communities as the rains swept through the region, leaving large amounts of water in some areas. Standing water was reported on parts of Interstate 95 and the Schuylkill Expressway early in the day.

A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect in the region Tuesday, but officials say most of the roads are reopen.

Further west, in Berks County, officials say a portion of Route 12 was closed due to flooding.

There were also thousands of homes without power and various trees downed on area roads.
